Newcastle United interested in Barcelona’s Ferran Torres and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah

Newcastle United interested in Barcelona’s Ferran Torres
Newcastle United are interested in signing 23-year-old Spanish forward Ferran Torres from Barcelona.
According to Spanish media outlet Fichajes, Newcastle are preparing a 40 million euro (£35m) January swoop for the former Man City forward who has largely struggled in Spain after leaving the Premier League in 2022
The Magpies’ boss Eddie Howe is desperate to find reinforcements for his attacking line-up with strikers Aleksander Isak and Callum Wilson becoming unreliable having been in and out of the treatment room for the greater part of the campaign.

Torres was signed by Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens back in 2020 from Valencia for a reported transfer fee of 23 million euros (£20.8m) and went on to score nine goals in the Premier League lifting both the title and the Carabao Cup in his two-year spell at the Etihad.
His displays in England led to him breaking into the Spain national team, where he has gone on to hit the net 17 times in 38 caps for his country.
However, his return to Spain with Barcelona has proved too difficult as he fell out of favour following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski and has been restricted to making only 63 appearances across all competitions for the Catalans.
Newcastle weighing up a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah
Newcastle are also preparing to sign the £20m-rated defender Jonathan Tar from Bayer Leverkusen.
As reported by The Sun, Eddie Howe is also looking for defensive reinforcements after losing Sven Botman and Dan Burn to injury and is weighing the possibility of bringing the German to St James Park in January.

Although the move for Tah remains a possibility, Newcastle will face stiff competition from a number of clubs around Europe who are also interested in the 27-year-old centre-back with Manchester United and West Ham chiefly among them.
Tah has been outstanding in Leverkusen’s impressive start to the season which put them top of the Bundesliga going into the international break.
Xabi Alonso’s side also enjoying a perfect round of fixtures in the Europa League and would be very reluctant to lose him before the end of the season despite having just over 18 months left on his contract.
Tah joined Leverkusen from Hamburg in a deal worth around £6.5m in 2015.
He has gone on to make 321 appearances for them to date.
