Aston Villa exploring the possibility of signing Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams with Unai Emery a huge admirer of the 29-year-old
Aston Villa are lining up a possible January move for Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams.
The West Midlands outfit are on the market for a striker with the new year approaching, and the 29-year-old is seen as someone who fits the bill.
Unai Emery has been a huge admirer of the Ghanaian forward during his time in Spain and is keen to bring him to Villa Park in January.
The follows reports that Emery has grown impatient with Jhon Duran’s attitude in training and would like to sign another forward to work with Ollie Watkins and perhaps provide some competition.
Duran was signed by Villa in January for an initial fee of £14.75 million, with the potential of a further £3 million in add-ons.
However, the 19-year-old Colombian has reportedly fallen out of favour with Unai Emery and his boss wants to sign someone “who is ready” to go upon arrival in England.
With the coming Williams, Villa are also planning to let Duran leave on loan and perhaps permanently in the summer.
Meanwhile, a close source at the San Memes has told Spanish football magazine Marca that it will be hard for Aston Villa to prise Williams away from Bilbao – where he has just extended his contract until June 2028.
He has played on the right-hand side of a three-pronged Bilbao attack this season, starting every game in the Spanish top flight and registering five goals and three assists.
Williams can also lead the line and has done so for Ghana in his eight caps for the Black Stars.
